About EnerGenZ
Our Group
EnerGenZ is a group of undergraduate students currently taking up ENVI 10.01: Introduction to Environmental Science at the Ateneo de Manila University. The members of the group are Coleen Abadicio, Drew Co, Ira Martin, and Lezlee Pua. Part of the course requirements is a culminating project, and we have chosen to campaign for the environmental issue, energy consumption of the digital sector, through a website.
Our Mission
The use of digital technologies and the Internet is often linked with green or sustainable practices, like eliminating paper use or reducing gas consumption for transport. However, as society grows more dependent on these technologies such as during the COVID-19 pandemic, the digital sector has a more significant, yet often overlooked effect on average energy consumption. To a great extent, the digital sector affects the environment through the extraction of raw materials used for manufacturing the devices, as well as the electricity consumed by the sector altogether. Through this website, we aim to raise awareness for the environmental issue and propose a plan of action for readers. Through this, the group aims to encourage people to be more mindful of how often they use digital gadgets and applications at the expense of energy consumption, as well as what they can do to reduce their consumption to a more sustainable level.
